Best Caucasian friend from Sweden

He's the first Caucasian (guai lou) I knew in ANU, or in my life. It was Orientation day and I was entering the lecture theater for the next talk thingy. I was looking for a seat. As I was alone, I could sit anywhere. I saw somewhere in the middle had a space, though there's someone beside the seat. Couldn't care much, I walked there and sat my ass on the comfy seat. There's this Caucasian beside me. As it's the first experience for me to talk to Caucasian personally, I mean making friends with Caucasian, I was wondering should I start talking to him. I did, and I didn't regret. He's one of the best guy around that I knew.

He's an exchange student from Sweden. Oh girls, forgetting to mention that, he's (EXTREMELY) good looking. However, he's already 25 and getting married next year. Haha.

Apparently, he stays in the same block as mine. In our hall's kitchen, the placement for our cooking area is determined according to the block we're staying. So, we are in the same kitchen area as well. He has a very nice Swedish friend in the same cooking area and her name is Rose. How nice of her name! She's so sweet that she always brought smile and with sweet voice asking :"Hi Jay, how're you doing today?" I guess both of them had brought so much good impression on Sweden. I kinda decided to visit Sweden someday, partly inspired by them.

He plays good tennis, from what he told me. I haven't played with him yet. :( I hope I'll still have this chance before he goes back to Sweden end of this semester!

I was talking to him in msn, telling him about the 1 month anniversary thingy with G 2 weeks ago. He was like 'aw you guys are so cute'. Then he mentioned about his anniversary with his fiance which is one week later than mine, it is their 8 year anniversary. And they are going to marry on August 2010. I told him that I wish I could go to Sweden and attend his wedding. Though it sounded quite not possible, I still wanted to go there. It would be so nice to see my own friend to get married with his partner of 8 years. How sweet and lovely.

I so gonna miss you and Rose when you guys are leaving end of this semester. Hope I'll see you guys again some day.

Today Ellen's coming over for dinner. It's been awhile since she came and hangout with Gina. I'm glad for them that they have a chance to really sit down and have a relaxing dinner together. Since I'm so glad (right), I planned to cook a good dinner for them.

The menu for the day are: Sweet sour chicken (something like Ku Lou Yok) and (something like) Ma Po Tofu.

I took almost an hour and half to finish preparing and cooking. Thanks to lovely Gina who actually helped me out whereas she could talk to Ellen and Manasvee which she didn't. I appreciate it :)

One thing, I regretted creating an album and naming the album as "Chef Ko". Now people kinda tease and call me "Chef Ko", of course, in a weird way. (I did change the name of the album to something else later)

I cooked a lot, and it turned out that the chicken wasn't crispy enough. Hmm, lack of wheat flour I guess. The Tofu was satisfying due to the addition of Chilli Bean Sauce in the recipe. Credits to Gina :)

To Yie Sue: Continue motivating me to continue blogging! Now I keep asking myself to update because of your motivation! lol

Part of my life in Canberra - B & G's Kitchen

Hi guys, you must be wondering how am I doing here in ANU, Canberra. Well, I'm gonna share a little on my life here. Back in Malaysia, we never really cook on our own. Okay, apart from those days when we boiled Indo Mee in the stainless steel mug with boiling hot water, we never really cook a complete meal on our own right? Why? The food out there is so cheap. Just RM4 we can have a full plate of 'zhap fan' aka 'economy rice' from the Fat Lady near the backgate of UTM where we used to walk 10mins just to savour her delectable dishes. Some other reasons would be: there's always a lovely mom to cook for us, or an Indonesian maid to prepare Chinese cuisine which most of the Chineses don't even know how. Or if you're lucky enough, you have a girlfriend to cook for you ;) but to be honest that's not very likely though. She might as well go to the hawker stalls just opposite her dorm and takeaway instead. No offense. =p

Alright, back to the topic. I'll briefly explain the types of hall here in ANU. (we call hostel as hall here) There are two types of hall- 1) Catered hall 2) Self-catered hall. In catered hall, every meal is provided, with a higher weekly cost of accomodation of course. In self-catered hall, we have to prepare our own meal. And I'm staying in the best hall in ANU, Canberra- the Burton & Garran Hall (http://bandg.anu.edu.au/BandG/14.html). I have to prepare every meal here by myself. I sense another quesion from you now:" What?? DO YOU KNOW HOW TO COOK?" The answer is YES, I DO KNOW HOW TO COOK, and I'm very proud of it. Girls do praise me as a good cook here =p Yeah, I meant Girls.

Since it's self-catered hall, the next question would be:"How bout the kitchen?" We don't have a kitchen space in our room yet, Burton & Garran Hall provides a shared kitchen for every residents of B & G. The kitchen is unbelievably ENORMOUS and SPACIOUS. Every residents has a cooking area, an allocated fridge space and storage cupboard. As for freezer, you have to keep your stuff at random space available in the freezer. So, spare your own risk at opening the freezer at all times as you never know how people stuff and squeeze their food in the freezer.

We go to kitchen for breakfast, lunch and dinner basically. However, there are some other activities that you can do in the kitchen, eg: when you're bored and you feel like talking to someone; have a drink with your friends; hit on some hot girls; have a grab of sandwich etc; or stealing other resident's milk or mushroom in the fridge during midnight. For these 2 months, I've lost heaps of stuff: milk, honey shaved leg ham, mushrooms(why steal mushroom?),
